Senior AML / KYC Officer – Alternative Investment Funds

About the Role
Our client, a regulated alternative investment fund platform in Luxembourg, is seeking an AML / KYC Officer to strengthen its compliance and financial crime framework. The role sits within the Compliance function and focuses on AML/CFT, KYC, investor due diligence and regulatory compliance across a range of alternative investment structures.
This position is particularly well suited to a candidate with a legal education or background, who is familiar with Luxembourg’s AML/CFT regulatory environment and CSSF expectations.
Key Responsibilities
AML / CFT & KYC Oversight
Perform and review AML/KYC due diligence on investors, intermediaries, sponsors and related parties (including UBO identification).
Assess and document risk classifications(low/medium/high risk) in line with Luxembourg AML laws and internal policies.
Conduct enhanced due diligence (EDD) for high-risk investors, complex structures and PEPs.
Ensure proper onboarding and ongoing monitoring of investors and counterparties.
Regulatory & Legal Compliance
Support compliance with Luxembourg AML/CFT laws, CSSF regulations, EU directives and applicable circulars.
Contribute to the interpretation and implementation of new or evolving AML regulations affecting alternative funds.
Maintain AML/KYC policies, procedures and templates, ensuring they remain current and audit-ready.
Assist with CSSF inspections, internal audits and external audits, including preparation of documentation and responses.
Transaction Monitoring & Reporting
Review AML alerts, unusual or suspicious transactions and escalations.
Prepare and support the filing of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs/STRs) with the Luxembourg FIU (when applicable).
Document decision-making processes and ensure appropriate escalation to senior management or the RC.
Governance & Stakeholder Interaction
Act as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, external service providers and legal advisors on AML/KYC matters.
Provide guidance to operational and investment teams on AML/KYC requirements.
Support AML training initiatives and promote a strong compliance culture across the organisation.
Key Requirements
Education & Professional Background
University degree in Law (LL.B., LL.M.) or a legal education background; alternatively, Compliance, Finance or equivalent.
2–6 years of experience in AML/KYC or Compliancewithin the alternative investment funds, asset management, AIFM or fund services environment in Luxembourg.
Technical & Regulatory Knowledge
Strong knowledge of Luxembourg AML/CFT legislation, CSSF requirements and EU AML Directives.
Solid understanding of alternative fund structures(RAIF, SIF, SICAR, SCSp, AIFM models).
Experience with investor due diligence, complex ownership structures and cross-border investors.
Skills & Competencies
Strong legal and analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to interpret regulations and apply them pragmatically in a business context.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a compliance team.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
French and/or German is a strong advantage.
